STUFF THE TURKEY, NOT YOUR FACE

Avoid Over Eating at Thanksgiving

Tips to avoid Thanksgiving Weight Gain

What would Thanksgiving be without stuffing ourselves silly, falling asleep on the couch, and doing it all again?  We over-indulge with too many choices, too much food, in too large of portions for too short a period of time.  Jim Gaffigan, the comedian, jokes that over eating is not much of a tradition for Turkey Day.  He has a point.

Our yearly feast does not have to revolve around becoming a sofa-beached whale.  We should make tasty but healthy choices for the menu.  Better Homes & Gardens suggests a variety of foods cooked in delicious ways.  They also present rubs for the Turkey with tasty stuffing recipes.  Even the presence of great desserts does not have to undermine your weight loss goals.  Look to make sensible choices and Thanksgiving does not have to stop your journey to health.

Try these suggestions:

  • Prepare healthy recipes.  Junk foods will interfere with your goal of detoxification.
  • Even with numerous choices on the table, take just a small amount of each one you want.  Then eat these slowly.
  • Limit seconds to select choices, and keep serving size extra small.
  • Eat at meal time and avoid the snacking.
  • Stop when you are full!
  • Have a small serving of dessert if you want, then stop.  And don’t feel guilty for it.
  • Drink plenty of water to help fill up.
  • Enjoy the day but remember your long term objective remains good health.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving with all the sights, sounds, and smells of the Holidays.
